Lambeth Towers London Illustrated Art Print A3 297 X 420Mm Eye for London Prints
Vendor: Wolfandbadger.com Price: 48.00 $ (+10.00 $)This building falls on my cycle route back home, and being right at the signal, gives me a lot of time to look up and admire the block of stacked up cubes. George Finch's masterpiece the Lambeth Towers is made up of 10 storeys of flats set over a luncheon club and doctor's surgery, inspired by the work of Moshe Safdie and built at the same time as Safdie's Habitat blocks for the Montreal Expo of 1967. Each flat was individually articulated within a cranked concrete frame that maximised the tight site, creating a strong, square patterning that evoked Piet Mondrian's paintings. Balfron Tower Art Print A3 297 X 420Mm Eye for London Prints
Vendor: Wolfandbadger.com Price: 48.00 $ (+10.00 $)This 27-storey slab block was a testbed for Ernö Goldfinger's (yes goldfinger!!) utopian housing ideals. The most striking characteristic of the building is the composition of volumes that makes up its distinctive profile. Reinforced concrete gives the building its rigid structural grid, which visibly frames each residence. In a letter published in the Guardian at the time he explained: "The whole object of building high is to free the ground for children and grown-ups to enjoy Mother Earth and not to cover every inch with bricks and mortar." Goldfinger believed the ideas demonstrated by Balfron could offer the best of design to the masses, as an alternative to the slum housing that was still common throughout much of Britain in the 1960s. Printed on premium 350gsm lightly textured thick Matte Paper. Designed in Brixton. Printed professionally in London. Posted in sturdy cardboard tubes.

Trellick Tower Art Print Poster A3 297 X 420Mm Eye for London Prints
Vendor: Wolfandbadger.com Price: 48.00 $ (+10.00 $)A Trellick Sunset. Goldfinger's design is based on his earlier and slightly smaller Balfron Tower (in Poplar, east London), and is in effect a sibling building. The tower was completed at a time when high-rise tower blocks were going out of fashion as local authorities were beginning to realise the social problems they caused. It was said to have inspired JG Ballard's novel, High Rise, in which residents collapse into anarchy and wage war on each other's floors. A destiny of desolation and demolition seemed inevitable. Although Wendy who runs a bookshop in the city, and a resident of the Barbican insists that the novel is more reflective of life in the Barbican Estate! Something unexpected, something astonishing, has happened. Trellick has clawed out of the abyss. Against all the odds, it has hewn a renaissance from the concrete. Crime and disorder have virtually evaporated. Lifts glide, boilers hum, management works. Tenants adore it, Blur sing about it, directors and advertisers film it, T-shirt designers transpose it, architects study it, coach-loads of tourists photograph it. Trellick's transformation is the closest urban renewal gets to fairytale - one which planners hope will become a model for Britain. It is a story of a flawed ideal, a vilified architect, a doomed vision and tenants who refused to give up. Above all, it's a story of the fickleness of fashion. Sold unframed. Printed on premium 350gsm lightly textured thick Matte Paper. Sold unframed. Designed in Brixton. Printed professionally in London. Mailed in sturdy postal tubes.

Mr. Towers of London: A Life in Show Business
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 27.74 $Here, in his own words, are the illustrious adventures of HARRY ALAN TOWERS, rascal and raconteur, a notorious figure in the world of cinema of whom it was said he could go into any production office in the world and walk out with a movie deal. After establishing himself in 1940s radio with The Lives of Harry Lime and The Black Museum, both starring Orson Welles, Towers produced more than 100 feature films all around the world. He worked in 40 countries from Austria to Zimbabwe, starring the likes of Michael Caine, Christopher Lee, Jack Palance, Klaus Kinski and many more. A lifelong lover of literature, he brought to the screen the works of authors as revered as H. G. Wells, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Agatha Christie-and as reviled as the Marquis De Sade and Leopold Von Sacher-Masoch. And as a lifelong lover of women, he made friends and stars, national news and international scandals. "Harry Alan Towers is one of the great unsung producers of post-1960 cinema. Every film he produced carries his distinct personality, as with Selznick or Bronston, but Harry's metier was exploitation. What he uniquely brought to his films was the sense of a connoisseur, and a sense of someone who loved pulp; he appreciated the finer things and smuggled them into some wonderful movies... and some unlikely ones, too. I'm delighted to learn he wrote his memoirs, and I can't wait to read them!" - TIM LUCAS, editor of VIDEO WATCHDOG

Tower: An Epic History of the Tower of London
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 54.21 $A dazzling history of the Tower of London, one of the world's busiest tourist attractions, and the people who populated itCastle, royal palace, prison, torture chamber, execution site, zoo, mint, home to the crown jewels, armory, record office, observatory, and the most visited tourist attraction in the UK: The Tower of London has been all these things and more. No building in Britain has been more intimately involved in the island's story than this mighty, brooding stronghold in the very heart of the capital, a place which has stood at the epicenter of dramatic, bloody and frequently cruel events for almost a thousand years. Now historian Nigel Jones sets this dramatic story firmly in the context of national―and international―events. In a gripping account drawn from primary sources and lavishly illustrated with sixteen pages of stunning photographs, he captures the Tower in its many changing moods and its many diverse functions. Here, for the first time, is a thematic portrayal of the Tower of london not just as an ancient structure, but as a living symbol of the nation of Great Britain.
